CSM Introduction |
CSM Reflection |
This project serves as an introduction to the basics of video production, namely the specific camera shots and movements (CSM) used by videographers.
We were tasked with making an instructional video consisting of 11+ shots, with each shot demonstrating a different camera shot or movement. We had to conduct in-depth pre-production, drawing specific storyboards and planning shooting locations with other teachers, etc. The camera shots required are a Wide shot, a Medium shot, a Closeup shot, an Extreme Closeup shot, and a Point of View shot. We had to additionally include the 5 basic movements: Pan, Tilt, Crane, Truck, Zoom, and Dolly. |
My partner and I opted to do an instructional video on how to show South Western school spirit. When developing our video, we missed the word "entertaining" within the prompt, leading to a comparably serious result as opposed to the comedic video the prompt was trying to get us to make.
This was definitely difficult. It's one thing entirely to reverse engineer the storyboards, or to do them on your own. When you introduce a partnership, you have to ensure that you and your partner are constantly on the same page creatively, in order to quicken the filming process (being as we only had 30 minutes). Some shots were tricky to try and get. When we casually film videos, we aren't really "planning" them or thinking about them from a cinematographic perspective. Putting yourself in the technical mindset of how to exactly execute certain motions (whether subject or camera) can be daunting and difficult. Editing in Adobe Premiere wasn't too bad. I think due to time constraints I didn't really get to delve into any editing techniques, but I hope to try some more on the music video project. |
